8th Annual AGMHI Conference

The AGMHI hosted its 8th annual conference titled “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Transgenerational Trauma in Africa” in Durban, South Africa from 17–19 November 2025. The event convened 111 individuals from 17 countries across Africa and the diaspora including Botswana, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Germany, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, UAE, Uganda, USA, and Zimbabwe. Attendees gathered over two and a half days at a pivotal moment in global mental health to create a space for lived experience, history, neuroscience, clinical practice, ethics, policy, and traditional healing systems to inform and challenge one another. Through keynote addresses, oral presentations, panel discussions, and a poster session, the conference showcased current research and highlighted pathways toward more equitable, inclusive, and healing frameworks for mental health in Africa and beyond.
